Discover the endangered Orangutans and surrounding wildlife with a visit to Pondok Tanggui feeding station within Tanjung Puting National Park. Watch orangutans’ complex behavior. You will also have the option to see the devastating effects of palm oil plantation. Follow the path to Tanjung Harapan, another release site and feeding station. Explore the local village. Dine onboard our “klotok” and admire the fireflies in the Nipah Palms.
Start your day with an early breakfast and travel upstream onboard our “klotok” or traditional riverboat to Pondok Tangui, a newly established Rehabilitation Center. Walk through deep forest to the feeding station and observe orangutans’ behavior in the wild.
At around 9:00AM, rangers supplement the primates’ diet with coconut milk and bananas. Query your guide and learn more about the alpha male and the other members. On your way back to the boat, look for giant squirrels, wild pigs and glorious butterflies.
From the dock area, you have the option to proceed on a 2 Km walk to see a Palm Oil plantation.
Lunch occurs on our “klotok” and around 1:30PM head off to Tanjung Harapan alternate rehabilitation center. Enjoy the sheer beauty of the Sekonyer River and learn from your guide the devastating effect of gold mining and its impact on the ecology of the river.
Tanjung Harapan hosts the Park Management facility and was initially the former village site.
Arrive at 3PM at the feeding platform, sit and simply enjoy the majestic primates. Meet the alpha male, Yanni and learn about orangutans’ behavior.
You might then decide to visit the Sekonyer Village across the river and get an insight of the villagers’ daily life.
Return to the lodge, freshen up and get ready for a dinner cruise aboard our “klotok”.
Watch Proboscis monkeys (Nasalis larvatus) roost in trees and admire the magical spectacle of Fireflies in Nipah palms or the reflecting moon on the river.
